R/GA approached us with an interesting challenge; Timberland, a hugely popular brand in the ‘90s, was keen to engage with a new generation, while staying true to its heritage. Our answer? TimbsTrails! This interactive mobile-first experience featured six individual chapters, each featuring unique environments and architecture inspired by Timberland’s iconic tree logo, and taking visitors on a series of journeys to explore the brand’s past, present and future. The gamified trails transported users to various locations inspired by Timberland’s New England origins, its New York hip-hop roots, sustainability initiatives, and cultural significance in cities such as London and Tokyo, inviting users to discover more about the brand’s historical influence across art, music and culture, as well as its next steps into the future.
