Honoring the different eras of Hip Hop via a time travelling AR experience

In 2023, Hip Hop turned fifty. To celebrate, Live Nation hosted a series of Hip Hop 50 events across the country, sponsored by Google Pixel. Google Pixel wanted to put fans in the centre of the story, so plai created an AR experience to take festivalgoers back to where it all began.

From the scene’s roots in the Bronx in the 70s all the way through to tomorrow’s legends, a series of wearable AR accessories set on endlessly looping 3D backgrounds allows fans to journey in time through the iconic eras of Hip Hop. Referencing icons spanning Public Enemy, Beastie Boys, Hype Williams and Travis Scott, this Snap powered experience worked to capture the complexity, diversity and fun of a scene proudly turning fifty.
